3 Reasons to Join Cantala
Cantala in performance, NYC 2025
Cantala Choir creates more than music — it builds community, celebrates diversity, and brings stories to life through song.
The First Note: Welcoming Community
One of the most striking things about Cantala is the strong sense of community. Singers come from all walks of life — students, professionals, retirees — united by a shared love of music. From the very first rehearsal, I felt welcomed and encouraged, no matter my skill level. Cantala’s inclusive spirit reflects its commitment to diversity and fosters an environment where everyone’s voice matters.
A Rich and Diverse Musical Journey
Cantala embraces a broad spectrum of musical styles, ranging from classical works by composers like Ola Gjeilo and Samuel Barber, to pieces by Canadian composers such as Bev Lewis, Katharine Petkovski, and Andrew Balfour. The repertoire includes songs that celebrate First Nations heritage, alongside contemporary pop arrangements and multicultural folk songs. This rich variety keeps rehearsals both inspiring and educational, giving singers the opportunity to explore new traditions and discover the stories behind the music.
Cantala is about more than music-its about friendships and a sense of belonging.
More Than Just Singing
Being part of Cantala requires dedication — mastering complex harmonies, blending voices, and preparing for performances that light up Toronto’s vibrant arts scene. But beyond the music, the greatest reward has been the friendships and sense of belonging I’ve found. Through rehearsals, concerts, and social gatherings, Cantala creates a space where people connect, inspire one another, and celebrate our shared humanity through the universal language of music.
