Have you ever swirled around in a big ball gown on a concert stage that is all yours? We did this past May at Roy Thomson Hall. We can report back that it is a fantastic experience and highly recommend it.

Cantala performing in Roy Thomson Hall, May 2023

Performing at Roy Thomson Hall this past May was a spectacular experience for both myself (the conductor) and the singers. What a treat it was to be able to hear other singing members so clearly in such a large space. It will be an experience that will not fade anytime soon in our musical memories.

Thank you for all your support at our concerts. We had an incredible audience at our spring concert, The Beauty of Song, and the choir was in peek form. Find a youtube video recording here!

This year saw many new things for Cantala. We became a gender neutral choir which attracted new members from the LGBTQ2S++ community, we premiered many new choral works from our New Works Program that started back in 2018, we began to record our next album release of Canadian Choral music,  and we had a solo recital at Roy Thomson Hall.

It was a fantastic year of singing considering we are one year post- pandemic. Next year we continue the very important work of building up our program with a new program called Mentorship. This program furthers our mission to provide a program that is more equitable, diverse and inclusive of all voices and learners.

The Mentorship program is for new singers in Cantala that have little to no choral experience and/or don’t read music, but have a gorgeous singing voice.  With the mentorship program they will,  if successful in the audition meeting, be given part recordings and be paired up with a seasoned, experienced choral singer that can help them during rehearsals. There will also be extra one on one help provided by the conductor.  In addition to this, going forward Cantala will use their music in performance. There will be limited spots available in this mentorship program, but we are excited to see this bring vibrant new singers to the group that love to sing.

We are excited to see how these offerings will be able to accommodate a broader range and type of learner.

Next year is shaping up to be a continuation of special, once in a lifetime opportunities. Distinguished Concerts International of New York (DCINY) has invited us to present a recital at Weill recital hall at Carnegie Hall. This is quite an honour and in part due to your unwavering support.

It is a special time to sing in Cantala. Thank you for being an important part of it.
