Cantala's collaborating musicians
It is always fun to collaborate. We have one special artist that will be joining us for our coming Christmas Concert tomorrow night for A Ceremony of Carols. The concert takes place at St. Martin in the fields, 151 Glenlake Rd, 7pm, in Toronto.
Asal Iranmehr, Collaborating pianist
We are very excited to have Asal Iranmehr performing with us once again this concert. She has been performing with Cantala for 2 years now and she continues to compliment our singing in so many ways. We always look forward to working with her again.
Native of Iran, Asal is an active collaborative pianist and piano pedagogue in Toronto. She has always been passionate about playing in ensembles and sharing the joy of performance in collaboration with other musicians. Some of her recent collaborations include performances with Tapestry Opera 101, AIMS summer music festival, Nuit Blanche Festival, Polish Embassy in Ottawa, Gallery 345 and Cantala Women Choir under the baton of Nancy Singla with whom she also had the pleasure of recording Rachmaninoff’s Six Choruses Op.15.
Asal has been featured in numerous master classes with Catherine Wynn-Rogers, Warren Jones, Stephanie Blythe, Gerald Robbins and Brigitte Meyer.
She has been on the Collaborative pianist List of The Music Faculty at University of Toronto where she is in demand as a performer, coach and collaborator. Her other collaborations include performing with Michael Donovan’s students at York University.
Asal took her early professional music training at Tehran Music Conservatory. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Music at Azad University in Tehran where she appeared as soloist to premier The suite by Iranian composer Hassan Riyahi with Tehran symphony orchestra.
Asal pursued her education in chamber music at Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris, where she received her degree with Juror's Honours and Unanimous Vote, then obtained Advanced Certificate in Performance and her Master’s Degree in Collaborative Piano at University of Toronto, under tutelage of Steven Philcox and Lydia Wong.
Asal won numerous awards and competitions including First Prize in the24th FADJR Festival in chamber music, First Prize in the 3rd Biennial Piano Competition, Second prize in Madeleine Valmalet piano competitions and First Prize of Students National festival in Iran.
