We made it. 10 years have passed and Cantala is brimming with passionate choral singers, long lasting friendships and excitement for the year ahead. Here is the upcoming 2018 Fall/Winter repertoire.

2018 Fall/Winter repertoire 

A Ceremony of Carols, Benjamin Britten. Performed with Harp. A classic work for treble choir with glorious melodies and harmonies to cherish. 

The Birds, Benjamin Britten. Performed with Harp. A simple unison song you're sure to enjoy. 

In The Bleak Mid Winter, Benjamin Britten. From his larger unaccompanied  SATB work, A Boy is Born. Stunning and full of choral stillness-my favourite quality. 

Lo How a Rose Er Blooming,  Stephen Smith. A piece by the wonderful Canadian composer Stephen Smith and his gorgeous arrangement for 4 part unaccompanied women's choir. 

Deck the Halls in 7/8 , John McKelvy. Something familiar with a twist!

Ave Maria, David McIntyre. A piece demonstrating the awesome colour of dissonant chords and invigorating pulse of rhythm. 

Tota Pulcra Es, Maurice Durufle. A classic unaccompanied choral piece for an advanced Women's choir. 

Sussex Carol -Traditional. Something fun and easy to keep everyone jolly and bright-both in the choir and in the audience. 

New this year: We will be performing our concerts from memory. I am exciting to bring our musical communication with each other and our audience to a new level. 

Concert: Saturday December 8, 2018 at St. Martin in the Fields, 7pm. 

Rehearsals start Monday September 10th, 2018, @  645pm (until 845/915pm) @ Forest Hill United Church, downstairs in the friendship hall.

Cantala: The History

Naming Cantala happened rather spontaneously. My husband googled "choral singing names" and came back to me shortly with “Cantala” meaning “on wings of song”. No more than a moments thought later I made it official. "Cantala" it was.

Cantala Concert 2017: In the Bleak Midwinter

I've recently discovered a lesser-known work by Britten, A Boy is Born; a very demanding unaccompanied choral work for mixed choir. But lucky for us, the 5th movement In The Bleak Midwinter, is only for treble voices and Cantala is set to perform it in concert on December 9th, 2017, Toronto.
